Do you have a favorite book series? One of my favorite book series growing up was the Harry Potter series. I remember the anticipation I would feel when I knew another book was going to be released. I would rush to the bookstore as soon as I could. I had become invested in the characters and wanted so badly to know what happened to them and to know how the story would end. When the last book was released, I devoured the book quickly. I could not wait to see how this epic story was going to end. When I finished the final page and closed the book, I felt a small twinge of sadness. I couldn’t believe that it was over. That was the last time I would read anything new about Harry, Ron and Hermione and the adventures they had together.

When you read a book you can allow ourselves to get swept away by the plot twists and turns. You can feel like you know the characters almost as well as you know our friends. You find connection a world that is outside of our everyday life. The downfall of this is that sometimes you can feel like your life needs to have a story book ending with everything picture perfectly resolved. Or you can be made to feel that your life needs to have clear cut answers or directions like some characters from books you love. The truth is sometimes your life will have twists and turns you never imagined. Sometimes you will end up in places you never could have expected, and you never know what is coming next. Through it all you can hold tight to this promise-God has a purpose for you. God has a reason for you and a reason for your life. God promises to be present through it all even when there is no clear storybook resolution, even when there is no clear next step God is there. God has been there from the very beginning and God will continue to be there wherever your story takes you.

Join us this Lenten season for Discovering Your Faith Story. Each Wednesday evening of Lent we will explore different purposes for your life and how God has been and continues to use you and your life to deepen your faith and the faith of those around you. I hope you will join us!

Blessings!
